"Watch Us Fall" By Christina Kovac

I always find the first sentence of a book intriguing because it can determine if the reader continues reading.

“ON JANUARY 20, DURING THE BIGGEST SNOWFALL TO HIT DC IN A decade, Josh Eagan disappeared. He was thirty-one years old, wealthy and handsome, a TV news star who zinged through the city on celebrity rocket fuel…”

Yes, I’d say this is an attention grabber. I was hooked, and you will be too.

This is a fast-paced story of four young women. Estella, Penelope, Addie, and Lucy, the narrator, went through college rooming together in an old Victorian house. They have continued to live there after graduation. They all became fast friends, with Addie and Lucy becoming particularly close. That is until Addie falls in love with Josh, a very sharp TV investigative reporter.

Josh, being in love, decides to do full background checks on Addie’s friends. Estella and Penelope are exactly who they profess to be, but Lucy is hiding something about her past that he is determined to dig up. Especially because Addie and Lucy are besties. But then Josh and Addie have an argument and break up, and Josh disappears in the middle of a snowstorm.

The girls go insane with worry and begin to hunt for him, distribute posters, and do some investigating of their own. Because of her admiration and, yes, love for Addie, Lucy gets right into the middle of the police case. She does computer research and foot research. But Lucy and the police don’t seem to be making any progress, and Josh is still missing.

This book moves like a speeding car through the snowy streets of Georgetown, a complicated mystery with a surprise ending. Kovac has created a psychological thriller that will keep you up late reading. Buckle up.
