It’s early spring and Long Island locals are desperate to delve into their seasonal planting rituals after a long, cold winter. Smack in the middle of the busy parking lot of the local garden center, there’s a car crash: a local millionaire races out of his parking spot and hits the plant-laden car Dani’s mother is driving, with her passengers, Dani and her elderly Aunt Miriam. Of course it’s not Dani’s mother’s fault. Or could it be? A little voice inside Dani wonders if she was really paying attention.

In any case, the millionaire is determined to make it Dani’s mother’s fault. Before driving off, the malicious rich man screams abuse at Dani’s mother and vows to file a hefty lawsuit against her. Concerned, Dani goes to the millionaire’s mansion to dissuade him from the lawsuit. She brings along two of her devoted friends for courage. But when the threesome enters his office, they discover his body, cold and dead.

Now Dani and her mother are prime suspects. Other suspects do abound though, including the wealthy man’s twin fashion-model daughters, an ex-wife, an assistant/lover, a feuding neighbor, an aggrieved business partner, and a possibly pregnant, possibly current wife.

With the help of her ever-faithful band of friends and relatives, Dani sets out (once again) to find the real murderer to protect her mother, herself, and other wrongly accused suspects. She also works full-time helping her fading uncle run his coffee and ice cream café. Happily, it seems her uncle is doing better with Dani around. And Dani is finding her own life much more fulfilled back in her hometown.

If only there weren’t quite so many violent deaths.
