Jean-Luc Bannalec, the beloved author of the popular Brittany Mystery series, brings readers another investigation with Commissioner Dupin. A devoted fandom and successful television adaptation back this series, and it was my pleasure to review the eleventh book and its colorful cast of European characters.

Commissioner Dupin is close with his team. Recently, Kadeg, one of the members, inherited a huge estate. Now he has been attacked and put out of commission on the night of his aunt’s death. With the estate ready to be handed out, the stakes are high.

Dupin and the team head to the Abbey of the Angels to investigate. They are met by Kadeg’s extended family and the staff who are now out of a job. As they dive deeper into the case, Dupin finds himself privy to secrets about the family that complicate things even more.

With many twists and turns, charming small-town Brittany villages, and clever and smooth writing, this is a wonderful addition to the series. Even as a new reader jumping in with the eleventh book, I had no problem gathering the information I needed to situate myself and bring myself up to speed.

I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot, and enjoyed its intriguing settings on the way to its exciting ending.
