Addison Mason is the owner of a new cultural museum and filled with nerves and excitement about opening night and most especially about the unveiling of a famous painting from the 15th  century – a painting that had been lost since the Spanish Civil War. Although moments before he is set to unveil the piece, he is murdered.

Our main character Marco, a private investigator, and Detective Alberto Flores with the Malaga police, are paired to find the killer and their search takes them from Spain, to the UK, to Morocco and back, as the pressure to solve this case mounts from local dignitaries.

This is such a suspenseful mystery, with action happening right at the start of the story and the pacing kept up throughout. There were many suspects to consider, and the ending was nail biting as I found out my guesses were incorrect!

Marco is a perfectly developed detective unassuming, thoughtful and somewhat mysterious himself. He and Flores make a wonderful pair and balance each other perfectly.

While the mystery was excellent, I especially enjoyed the setting of Spain. The descriptions are so vivid and I felt as if I were in the pages of the story, walking along with Marco as he worked to solve the case. Our summer travels are finished this year, so getting to travel to Spain from the comfort of my favorite reading chair was most appreciated.
