Mr. (James) and Mrs. (Daisy) Dixon have been married twenty years. They reside in Langley Hall, just outside a picturesque and fictious Village of Upper Iffley in England. Daisy’s maiden name is Langley, but the only relation she can trace to the Hall is through the result of an illegal pregnancy as part of the distant past in the family tree. She and James grew up in the village, but her fate was to be impoverished, with only her mother to raise and support her; where James not only finished all the upper levels but also graduated from a prestigious college. When he returned to Upper Iffley, he was smart, rather handsome, and was making money hand over fist selling cryptocurrency investments.

At the passing of Daisy’s mother, her only known relation, James swoops in as her Prince Charming talking her into investing her small inheritance in his company. They marry and twenty years later Daisy has learned her investment has been swallowed by her husband’s Ponzi scheme, James is selling off anything of value, and has become more and more controlling of what she spends, how she dresses, and what she eats. Being an avid crime show watcher, she starts to contemplate ways to do away with her husband.

On the way home from a “networking” event with James, Daisy has a little too much to drink and runs over what she thinks to be a deer, but turns out to be one of the men who attended the party. Hence, the name of the book. The two of them must make haste to hide the body.

A series of unfortunate events uncover the body and bring the police knocking on their door. James blames her. She blames James. As they try to hide their secret, their lies tangle up, and bodies start piling up. All the while, Daisy is still trying to think of a way to rid the world of her husband who, she has come to realize, has no conscious.

This isn’t a who-done-it, but rather a how will she kill her husband? Or will she ever kill him? The author, Jennifer Holdich shows a very dry sense of humor when delving into Daisy’s thought processes. This book even made me laugh out loud at times. A delightful, entertaining, and uproarious mystery to be devoured.

Jennifer Holdich has written a previous book, Julia Tudor is not a Psychopath, which I look forward to diving into soon.
