Readers looking for a cozy winter escape set at Christmas time should make sure Get a Candle on Crime is top of their to-be-read pile! This is book four in the“Glenmyre Whim Mysteries by Sarah E. Burr and readers can jump in here if they are new to the series. Be sure not to miss books one through three, though.

Hazel and her best friend and aunt Poppy aren’t the kind to sit idle when a mystery presents itself, so the two begin an investigation. And what a page-turning investigation it is! Suspects and red herrings abound throughout and readers will be kept guessing until the end.
I tore through this latest entry and loved each page. In addition to a strong mystery, what I love the most is the relationship between Hazel and Poppy – supportive and kind and fun. The camaraderie between the two and with their cousin Holden is authentic, and when I read, I feel as though I am hanging out with friends.
The descriptive writing simply pops off the page, as though you’re reading a movie. I felt as though I was right there with Hazel and Poppy, selling candles, navigating the snowy cold weather and investigating this latest injustice. As we still sit with temperatures in the 90s in the midwest, escaping to Christmas time in Crucible was welcome.
Readers who enjoy clever mysteries, likable characters and stories featuring a touch of magic, will enjoy Sarah’s latest.
