Abigail Keam is back with a new and entertaining installment in her Josiah Reynolds mystery series––Death By Mail.
Beekeeper and sleuth Josiah and her delightful (and huge) dog Baby retrieve the mail one day only to find a small blue envelope at the bottom of the stack that contains an ominous message for Josiah. Not one to be scared easily, she doesn’t panic. And yet, the blue envelopes continue to arrive and Josiah, along with her mysterious daughter Asa, begins to investigate.

As with many long running series, opening a new entry is like visiting old friends. Lady Elsmere is particularly entertaining, and I was so relieved when she stepped in when she knew Josiah needed her daughter, Asa, who is one tough character that all readers would want in their corner. Despite her brave exterior, it is clear she loves Josiah in her own way.
The Kentucky setting is particularly beautiful. I was recently in the Lexington area, so it was especially fun for this reader to revisit it through Abigail’s descriptive writing. Her knowledge and familiarity with the area comes through the page easily.
I read the sneak peek for the next Josiah adventure that was in the back of the book, and I’m anxious to read on. Readers new to the series and fans of character-driven mysteries can jump in now and rejoice that there is a long backlist of titles waiting for them.
