Rashad May and Gideon Wise were happily married—or so everyone thought. Then Gideon was found in the bathtub, wrists slit. The apparent suicide was really murder, and Rashad had everything to gain.

After four years in prison, new evidence has surfaced so there’s a chance Rashad was innocent and can go free. Of course, that means a killer is still at large and will try to derail the investigation.

Suspects include Gideon’s daughter and her fiancé. Gideon was against their marriage. He refused to invest money in his daughter’s greeting card business. There were also problems at Gideon’s law firm.

Ray Lawless was the original defense attorney for Rashad’s trial. Much of his evidence was ruled inadmissible. Ray’s looking to reopen the case with his daughter Jane’s help. Although she runs a successful restaurant, Jane has her private investigator’s license, and she’s ready for a change of pace.

The restaurant practically runs itself. It’s Jane’s home life that needs a breather. Her former lover, Julia, is back and ill. Prognosis is bad. Julia researches and travels for a cure but nothing has worked so far.

It complicates matters that Jane’s brother Peter had dinner with Rashad the night of the murder. Now Peter is mysteriously unavailable, not in London with his wife and child, not answering his cell phone, and is between projects for work.

Following the clues is like navigating a labyrinth. Jane will have to use all her skills to find the truth and free an innocent man.

This is book twenty-six in the popular series. Hart delivers a tangled web of clues for readers to sort through, characters with depth, who have problems with family, lovers, friends, and work. Jane’s strength and character are surely pushed to the limits with this case. Another great read from the prolific Ellen Hart.
