Topsail Sundays is the second book in Kathi Daley’s Island Reunion Trilogy. The story is a continuation of Summerhouse Reunion which introduced characters and revealed clues to the cold case mystery of several missing persons. It is not written as a traditional standalone like many of Kathi’s series; it is highly recommended readers start at the beginning.

Island Reunion
Kelly Green was somewhat reticent about accepting an invitation from Carrie Davidson, long-time friend, for a long overdue reunion with the four remaining members of the self-proclaimed Summer Six. There were many emotional elements to the reunion: the least being the summerhouse in which they would be staying is the same one Kelly’s family used to own; the most difficult is the absence of her twin sister Kayla who recently had been removed from life-support after a year-long coma, the result of a tragic car accident. Besides just getting together with old friends, Carrie hoped to use the opportunity to remember another of their friends who would not be in attendance: Peggy Amundson. It is sadly the twenty-fifth anniversary of Peggy’s disappearance...without a trace. Kelly is hoping these few weeks will provide a good time, a renewing of friendships, and finding a way to move on.

Topsail Sundays earns 5/5 Island Surfboards...Engaging Entertainment!
Being back on the island, in the house she spent many a summer, in the same room she had childhood dreams, and reading the newly discovered journals her younger self penned, Kelly has been dealing with a flood of memories—some enjoyable, some she hardly remembered, some she’d like to forget. Seeing her old friends has also invoked many memories. Ryder West, her friend Carrie’s younger brother, had been a pest those years ago, but now, both as adults, those feelings have matured, and they are sharing an interest in jogging and sailing, quiet confidences, and a few late nights. However, her friend Peggy’s 1995 disappearance has turned into a tragic mystery. After her friend Sheriff Sam Stone found a disturbing pattern and victim profile, they agree it is more than a possibility the island had/has a serial killer. Then a body washes up on the beach, police make a surprising identification, and flora clues make this quest for answers...weird. Is there a connection to the annual surfing competition? Should the local artist get closer scrutiny? How about the photos and newspaper clippings? This mystery and crime has grabbed everyone’s interest.

Brilliant! The story continues...with only having waited a month, Part Two of Kathi Daley’s Island Reunion trilogy adds more surprising and intriguing details to sift through, a few more characters with direct and indirect knowledge, a romance seems to be warming up nicely, and a few questions to make book three an very welcomed book. As I read, a few “light bulbs” twinkled on and off along with a picture starting to emerge about a scenario, persons of interest, and a possible 2020 victim that might just fit the profile, but some theories on which the investigation had settled don’t fit the new evidence...engaging twists. The mystery is still relying on the research, informal and formal questioning, and gathering of facts, but the cliffhanger! The one endearing storyline is how each friend is struggling in their life. Kathi Daley does well to weave through her cozy mystery realistic exploration of losing a close relative, dealing with divorce, confronting changes in the dynamic between mothers and daughters, and questioning one’s career paths, but their friendship, however lapsed over the years, is the way each friend finds ease, comfort, and reenergizing. Will they find closure for their missing friend? Will the murder investigation lead to justice? Will each friend find peace and a positive way forward in their lives? Campfire Secrets will reveal all!
