Mysteries Check In!

Abagail Sullivan has put much of her family tragedy behind her and embraced a new and rewarding life as innkeeper of The Inn at Holiday Bay. The beautiful Victorian perched on the cliff has blossomed as a popular destination. Credit for how smoothly the Inn is running goes to manager/chef Georgia Carter and assistant manager Jeremy Slater; Abby joins in when she’s needed. Her successful writing career takes up some of her time along with, as circumstances have it, any mystery or murder investigation that comes her way. Her involvement, covert or outright, always includes her now boyfriend and official law enforcement connection, local police chief Colt Wilder, but BFFs Georgia and Lacy Parker and local residents like Velma at the Café are invaluable resources. She also has a trio of delightful, yet demanding, “fur” friends as companions for walks and relaxing on the deck. The Inn at Holiday Bay isn’t all cozy gatherings, cliffside views, and freshly-baked scones...mysteries of all kinds abound!

Turkey in the Trap-Room earns 5/5 Green Jelly Beans...Clever, Engaging Page Turner!

Lacy Parker, Abby’s good friend, is absolutely beside herself..."The turkey is MIA!” She’s in charge of the town’s annual children-filled production of the Thanksgiving Pageant, and the central figure has “flown the coop.” Abby’s role as support puts her in charge of finding the temperamental turkey, locating some wayward boys, and checking on the young girl who overindulged eating the “prop peas” oblivious to the fact they were green jelly beans. Does anyone believe in curses? If not, it’ll be hard to explain all the “gone wrong” incidents plaguing the idea of a smooth pageant from the need to change directors, a wave of the flu, lighting disasters, and now the missing bird. But, with closer inspection...a dead body!

The Inn at Holiday Bay is set to greet as guests three half-sisters: Shelby Morris, Sage Wilson, and Sierra Danielson. Each sister has had no contact with each other or their shared father, but are prominently mentioned in their paternal grandmother’s will and set to inherit a substantial fortune. The catch! Each woman must arrive in person and work collaboratively on a project with a time limit of ten days. Curious. Mysterious.

Gobble...Gobble it up! Kathi Daley has penned another excellent drama for the twelfth addition to her Inn at Holiday Bay series. Fans join their “literary” friends as they manage the Inn’s activities, host a myriad of guests, prep for Thanksgiving festivities, enjoy loving relationships, and investigate mysteries and murder. Although some of the clues and details are gathered off the page, the mystery unfolds steadily with catch-up conversations and “what did he say?” updates. The victim was involved in a couple of court cases that could implicate several suspects: a civil case trying to stop financial victims from recouping their losses and dispersing a large estate to beneficiaries. Money always seems to enter into the mix, but enough to commit murder? Of course, but beyond the possibilities of revenge and greed, might betrayal be on the menu. Kathi’s writing style uses descriptive language to paint the lovely Maine setting and various characters and the dialogue is witty and informative, keep readers engaged and entertained, but there’s been positive personal growth, flourishing of relationships, and lots of holidaying over the series...however, newbies can easily start here! Loved it!
