"Mystery of the Eight Islands" By Terry Ambrose: Review/Giveaway

 Review by Terrance McArthur

Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of the book and a link to purchase it.

Hawaii, the Gift of the Ocean. Tropical paradise, land of swaying palms and swaying hula skirts, and the perfect place for Mystery of the Eight Islands, Terry Ambrose’s eleventh Trouble in Paradise Mystery.

McKenna, a former skip-tracer turned private eye, is on the trail of murder and a historic necklace (Don’t go looking for the Eight islands necklace. It was made up for the story, but it’s woven from facts of the past.).

Chance, McKenna’s partner and apprentice, and Isabella, the granddaughter of a lawyer, are convinced the old man was murdered, but McKenna is only convinced the man is dead. Did he die in an accident, or was he killed because of the necklace, which he wanted returned to the Hawaiian people and a museum?

If it’s murder, whodunnit? The disbarred lawyer who Grandpa fired after she committed insurance fraud? The artist involved in the fraud…and involved with her? The veterinarian with a 125-year-old disagreement with Grandpa (It’s complicated.)? The jewelry artist who had the necklace (It’s missing. Did she steal it?)? Grandpa’s almost law partner? Or could it be…?

It’s a mad dash around the fiftieth state, punctuated by breathtaking sunsets, glimpses into Hawaiian culture, and a fascinating dose of historic crime. There are luxury spa treatments, an Internet celebrity, a musclebound watchdog/bodyguard, and the FBI. Like I said, it’s complicated.

The author of eighteen books over three series, along with a number of anthology stories, Ambrose can write light cozies, soft-boiled gumshoes, and some honest hold-your-breath thrills. Somewhere along the way, you’ll find yourself netsurfing travel sights for Island Vacations, or digging into the facts about the theft of the Hawaiian Crown Jewels, and that’s not a bad idea.
