Introducing…

Eddie Cayce earned her master’s degree in interior design and business and is now working at the top home design company in Seattle as a junior level designer. Her romantic relationship is perfect, too, having found in his drawer a ring she thought was destined for her left hand. But, her dream job and her dream life isn’t quite the dream of which she’d dreamed. She’s stifled by office antics, the boyfriend is having an affair, and the worst news yet has just arrived…her grandmother has passed away. So, having resigned from the job and said goodbye to the boyfriend, she’s heading back home to New Orleans.

A Medium Fate
Earns 5/5 Beignets…Fun and Entertaining!

Eddie’s name has always been a source of speculation or humor. Her mother claimed Edgar Cayce, renowned magician, clairvoyant, and “sleeping prophet,” as a distant relative, and although Eddie is not a magician, her visions are like magic. She can see what people close to her are experiencing along with entering their thoughts. She’d ignored her gift for years, using them sparingly, but returning home is bittersweet. She’s shocked by the language in her grandmother’s will bequeathing everything to only three “blood” relatives: her sister Aunt Franny, her nephew Nicolae, and her niece Eddie who receives the lion share of her grandmother’s vast fortune. As one of two female descendants, there’s much more.

“I don’t think you had a choice.” The symbol Nic painted on Eddie’s hand caused a rush of power to course through her, and at that moment, the power generations in the making is Eddie’s. But, will the other aunts and uncles sit idly by or will they attempt to fight the will? What about the “ghosts” that now haunt Eddie with questions and complaints? Will she still be able to follow her dream of owning her own antique shop and design business? More importantly, what will she do with the dead body?

Magical Gem! Lynn Cahoon’s novella offers a new twist to the paranormal world with a “Big Easy” setting, diverse family and friends, a strong female protagonist, ghosts, and a cozy murder. The changes to Eddie’s life — newish place, newish business, newish issues — may be an exciting adventure, but it seems she’s found herself in one difficult predicament after another with the victim’s family and employees, the on-site ghost, the homeless guy, and her own disgruntled relatives. The book is shorter, easily read in a few uninterrupted hours, but that means a more narrower focus, limited detailed backstory, less extraneous happenings, and a quick reveal and arrest. There aren’t any real cliffhanger incidents, but Eddie is just starting out, so there’re plenty of issues for the next book to address. So…Is Kirk worthy of Eddie’s trust? Will Harry the ghost continue to be helpful or obstructive? How much trouble is Aunt Franny going to cause? What is it that Bubba wants to talk about to Eddie? Definitely looking forward to book two! It New Orleans, too! So, enjoy a recipe for a tasty treat!
